The Cuelist Group is a simple way to define dependencies between different Cuelists in DMXControl 3.

Overview

In principle, DMXControl 3 can run as many Cuelists in parallel as needed. It doesn't matter whether each Cuelist addresses different Devices or if all currently active Cuelists want to access the same device. In the latter case, however, you may face the problem that you cannot easily reactivate a specific lighting mood because the settings made under HTP-, LTP-, and LoTP-Mixing might seemingly prevent switching at first glance.

But even in other configurations, DMXControl 3 requires information about how the Cuelists relate to each other. This may occur, for example, when you build a lighting mood like a modular system, and thus need to start several Cuelists at once—because the first Cuelist only addresses the dimmer, the second one the color, and the third one the position or movement.

This is where Cuelist Groups come into play. With them, you can define whether, when you have created multiple Cuelists in your project, they should:

  • start together,
  • stop together, or
  • only one of the Cuelists in this group should be active at a time.

Usage

Creating Cuelist Groups

Cuelist Groups are created in the Project Explorer in the folder Cuelist Group. By Drag & Drop, drag the Cuelists that should be grouped to the Cuelist Group.

Important hint A Cuelist Group requires at least two different Cuelists in order for the functions described below to work as expected.

Adjusting Behavior

In the settings of the Cuelist Group, the following properties can be adjusted:

Einstellung Möglicher Parameter Standardwert Beschreibung
deutsche GUI englische GUI
Name Text Name of the Cuelist Group.
Number Number Any numeric value Number of the Cuelist Group.
Master Cuelist (start) Master start cuelist Assigned Cuelists for this Cuelist Group empty If you select one of the Cuelists assigned to the group, all other Cuelists will only start in parallel when the selected Cuelist is started. To use this behavior, select "Behavior when starting Cuelist" under "Master Cuelist (start)".
Master Cuelist (stop) Master stop cuelist empty When the selected Cuelist is stopped, all Cuelists in this Cuelist Group will be stopped. To use this behavior, select "Behavior when stopping Cuelist" under "Master Cuelist (stop)".
Behavior when starting the Cuelist Cuelist start behavior "None"
"Only one from the list runs (Single list running)"
"Master / any starts all (Master / any starts all)"
None None: The associated Cuelists are not monitored or controlled by the Cuelist Group.
Only one from the list runs: Only one of the assigned Cuelists in this Cuelist Group can be executed at a time. If another Cuelist is called, the previously active one will automatically be stopped.
Behavior when starting the Cuelist: Starts all Cuelists assigned to this Cuelist Group as soon as any Cuelist from the group is called. If a specific Cuelist is selected under "Master Cuelist (start)", all Cuelists will only be called when that particular Cuelist is started.
Behavior when stopping the Cuelist Cuelist stop behavior "None"
"Master / any ends all"
None None: The stopping of associated Cuelists is not monitored or controlled by the Cuelist Group.
Behavior when stopping the Cuelist: Stops all active Cuelists in this Cuelist Group after any Cuelist from this group is stopped. If a specific Cuelist is selected under "Master Cuelist (stop)", all Cuelists will only be stopped after the selected Cuelist is stopped.

Use Cases

Automatically Stop Cuelists When a New One Starts

For spot-moving heads, several Cuelists with movements have been created. Only one Cuelist should be running at a time. When another Cuelist is started, the last one should automatically turn off. To do this, the Cuelists are grouped together in a Cuelist Group, and in the settings, the option "Cuelist start behavior" is set to "Single List running".

Important hint With the "Single list running" function, when another Cuelist from the Cuelist Group is called, the currently active Cuelist is faded out using the set release time and the new one is faded in using the pre-set fade time. Depending on the relationship between the release time and the fade time, it may happen that the Moving Head from this example moves to its home position. To avoid this problem, the release time should be longer than the chosen fade time for the Cues with the individual movements.

Using Cuelist Groups as Macros

If you have built your project like a modular system and create lighting moods from multiple components such as dimmer effects, color, movement, and possibly Gobos, you can use as many Cuelist Groups as needed to create so-called macros. With these macros, you can then call up a complete lighting mood with a single click.

For this to work, you must select one of the assigned Cuelists as the trigger for all other Cuelists in this group. This Cuelist is defined as the Master for both starting and stopping in the settings of the Cuelist Group. If you don't make this selection, the composed lighting mood will always start or stop as soon as any Cuelist from this group is called or finished.
