In DMXControl 3, all paths lead to the Programmer. Here, all values are centrally gathered that are set by adjusting a light scene using the Device Control or through the Control Panel. Only values listed in the Programmer can be saved (or re-saved) in a Cue.

Overview

Important Features

The Programmer only displays already set values. If you want to change these values, you need to select the respective Device or Device Group in the Stage View and adjust them using the Device Control or the Control Panel.

If an existing Scene is loaded into the Programmer, all previously contained values in the Programmer are overwritten.

Function Table

The function table displays all values set for a specific device function. The columns include various functions, and the rows display the respective Devices or Device Groups for which the values were set.

Usage

Assign Values

The programmer is filled in two ways:

  • As soon as various values are set via the Device Control or the Control Panel, the changes are added gradually. Previously set values in the Programmer remain intact.
  • When initiating the change of a scene using the « Edit in Programmer » command. However, this command will overwrite all previously existing values in the Programmer.

Preview

By default, the programmer always displays all values that were selected through the Device Control or the Control Panel for the new light mood or that were reloaded from an existing scene into the programmer. In certain situations, this behavior can be undesirable. To adjust this behavior, there is a button [Output Mode] both in the left sidebar and the menu bar of the programmer.

The options listed there account for the following scenarios:

  • All: The programmer behaves as described in the opening paragraph. All values are directly output, thus overwriting the current output.
  • Filtered: This function is especially useful for keeping an overview in more complex light moods. For example, if you have created such a light mood for spot moving heads that includes dimmers, color, and several gobos, you might no longer be able to recognize the effect applied to the dimmer. The filter function allows you to select that the programmer only displays values for dimmers and the first gobo wheel in the stage view, while the values for color are only listed in the Device Control.
  • Blind: This function is mainly useful during a live show. It allows you to change a scene in the background without the DMX output and thus the audience noticing. It should be noted that the stage view will continue to display the actual output values, while the Device Control and the Control Panel will show the values currently set in the programmer.

Important hint The preview mode selection must be made actively. Once you change the mode from [All] to [Blind], it remains in effect until you choose another preview mode. The exception is the function « Edit in Programmer Blind ». If you load a scene into the programmer using this function, the preview mode will automatically switch to [Blind]. It will remain set until you choose another preview mode.

Change and Delete Values

Scenes in DMXControl 3 are always edited and changed in conjunction with the Programmer. If a Scene (Cue) is loaded into the Programmer using the « Edit in Programmer » function:

  • All values stored in the scene for the respective devices are listed in the programmer.
  • The stage view displays the corresponding values depending on the output mode.
  • The stage view automatically selects the device groups or devices for which values are stored.
Important hint As soon as more than two different devices or device groups are addressed together in a scene, you need to be careful when changing which devices or device groups the values are being changed for. Therefore, it is always recommended to check carefully in the programmer which devices or device groups to select for changing a value for a function in the stage view.
