Group Handling controls the behavior of parameters and effects on groups to create more versatile effects.

Overview

The Group Handling applies to the respective functions of Device Groups. This allows multiple devices to be grouped together, so that they can all perform the same action for that scene. This also simplifies working with Fanning.

Key Features

In the Group Handling section, there are two values that influence the effect behavior on the associated Device Group:

  1. The mode for the interaction of multiple simultaneously selected Device Groups
  2. The number of devices within a device group or manual selection in the Stage View that should be treated as one device

Group Handling is stored in Scenes (Cues) and only affects the selected Device Group or the manual selection in the Stage View. Additionally, it can be set individually for each property of one or more selected device groups or devices for each new scene.

Controls

The Group Handling window is a tab in the Device Control and can be opened via « Window »⇒ « Device Control ».

Usage

Interaction Modes

There are three types of group handling, determining how an effect or fanning affects multiple selected device groups. In the related example, a linear Fanning with the value 0; 128; 255 > 255; 128; 0 is applied to the color property.

Description Description / Function Example
German GUI English GUI
Group Connect Concat groups All selected devices and device groups behave like a single device group depending on the selection order in the Stage View. This is the default behavior when selecting multiple devices and/or device groups. DMXC3 Manual Group Handling Concat groups.png

Like a Single Device Group is device Each device group in the selection is treated as a single device, so all devices within the device group perform the same action. DMXC3 Manual Group Handling Device groups.png

Parallel Groups Parallel groups The effects and filters, etc., are executed in parallel on the selected device groups. DMXC3 Manual Group Handling Parallel groups.png

In particular, when using the "Parallel groups" mode, ensure that the order within the Device Groups matches your expectations. If the effects do not run in parallel as expected, check the order. If this is not possible due to other existing effects and scenes, without "breaking" them, additional Device Groups can be created.

Group Size

In addition to the different modes, there is a setting that determines how many devices n within a device group or manual selection in the Stage View should be treated as one device. This dynamically groups several devices within a device group, and the group size can be changed at any time through the "Group Size" value. This value operates on the same principle across all modes.

The following example shows the effect of the group size value on an alternating fanning 0; 128; 255 # 255; 128; 0 # 255; 255; 255 on the color property. The mode for Group Handling remains at the default value "Group Connect (Contact groups)" in all three cases.
