Presets are the central, program-wide storage for device properties used in multiple Scenes (Cues). It is not necessary to adopt an entire scene; instead, you can store only a part of a saved preset in a scene. Additionally, parts of multiple presets can be used in the same scene. Furthermore, the advantage of presets is that all referenced scenes are automatically updated as soon as you update the properties in the respective preset.

Overview

Key Features

Important Hint For beginners with DMXControl 3, presets should initially be ignored. It is recommended to work with Cuelists, which then contain one or more scenes.

Types of Presets

There are three types of Presets:

Referenced Preset

A referenced preset is always used in its entirety as a Scene in a Cuelist. Everything saved in the preset will be played. Thus, the preset becomes a "global scene". Any later changes to the preset will be immediately reflected.

To directly use a preset in a cuelist, open the desired cuelist in the Cuelist Editor and add the preset via the command « Add (Add) »⇒ « Special (Special) »⇒ « Preset ».

Device Preset

A device preset is applied to one or more Devices or Device groups which are also saved in the preset. The filter is essentially "device and property". In this case, different values for a property can also be stored. For example, for RGB (1) => Red, RGB (2) => Green, and RGB (3) => Blue. When applying the preset to these three devices, each will get its respective color. Later changes to the preset will only affect those devices that were selected at the time of use.

A device preset can be used and applied in two ways:

  • For all devices / device groups stored in this preset. In this case, you directly use the entry « Apply to all » in the preset window for the desired preset. No prior selection of devices and/or device groups is required.
  • Only in parts based on a selection in the Stage View. In this case, it must be ensured that the selection contains only devices / device groups for which the preset was created. You then click on the entry « Apply to selected » in the preset window for the corresponding preset.

Device presets can be freely combined. For example, one preset contains values only for the dimmer, while another preset contains different colors for various device groups.

Important hint Each preset includes both a simple value and an effect. This means, conversely, that when applying a preset for a color, an effect cannot be manually added afterwards.
